Atlanta's collar counties have swung sharply toward Democrats over the past decade, driven by college-educated suburban migration and a growing Black professional class, narrowing what was once reliably Republican territory to a D+6.7 margin in 2024.
Across the recorded series it reached a Democratic high of eighty-four points in 1932 and a Republican high of forty-five points in 1972. Between 2020 and 2024 the metro moved two points toward the Republican candidate; the 2024 margin was fourteen points.
