Demographics
Rapid in-migration from coastal tech hubs has reshaped the electorate faster than almost any other Sun Belt metro, compressing Republican margins in surrounding Williamson and Hays counties even as the urban core remains heavily Democratic.
Across the recorded series it reached a Democratic high of eighty-two points in 1936 and a Republican high of nineteen points in 1984. Between 2020 and 2024 the metro moved six points toward the Republican candidate; the 2024 margin was twenty points.
A population of 2,426,592, a 57% non-Hispanic-white share, and a median household income of $100,512 describe the metro.
