Bend's Deschutes County shifted from reliably Republican toward competitive territory as the metro's population roughly doubled since 2000, driven by remote workers and retirees arriving from Oregon's liberal coastal cities.
Across the recorded series it reached a Democratic high of forty-four points in 1936 and a Republican high of forty-three points in 1904. Between 2020 and 2024 the metro moved one point toward the Democratic candidate; the 2024 margin was one point.
