Chattanooga's metro spans two states and has trended increasingly Republican at the federal level over the past two decades, even as in-migration and downtown revitalization have introduced a younger, more diverse electorate into Hamilton County's core.
Across the recorded series it reached a Democratic high of forty-two points in 1936 and a Republican high of forty-nine points in 1972. Between 2020 and 2024 the metro moved three points toward the Republican candidate; the 2024 margin was twenty-nine points.
A population of 575,812, a 77% non-Hispanic-white share, and a median household income of $72,439 describe the metro.
